Club seeks new players, training for next season starts in August
by Alex Walker

Captain Marc Harris and Vice Captain Myles Landick led the Sharks to wins over Wanderers twice, Guernsey 2 twice and Beeches to ensure that LQRFC finished 4th (out of 7) in the Promail JRA League, thereby qualifying for the playoffs to contest for the Sugden Cup, falling short in the semi finals to a strong Jersey RFC 2nd XV. Having finished bottom of the league the previous season this is an obvious improvement and shows that the club is heading in the right direction. However the season did not end without silverware, a 27-0 victory over Wanderers meant that the Doug Tranter Shield remained in our hands for a second successive season. A big thank you to our sponsor Victoria Bitter without which we would have struggled to fulfill our 2 league fixtures in Guernsey.
Individual mentions are warranted for Richard Vetier who picked up the Player of the Season award and Adam Brindle, who was voted as Most Improved Player. Both players won a case of Victoria Bitter, generously donated by Neil Pinel of Dunnellís Premier Wines. Congratulations also to top try scorer Neil Browning and top points scorer Gary Rousseau.
On the social front the annual Over 30ís v Under 30s game, where the more experienced members take on their youthful counterparts on the playing field, was won 36-24 by the older heads in an open and enjoyable match and raised £350 for the Anthony Nolan Trust in the process. This was followed by a cheerful Christmas Dinner at the Landmark Inn.
Training for the 2009/10 season will start in August. New players of all abilities aged 17 and over are invited to join us.
